Scuba diver sparks outrage as he rides endangered whale shark - Daily Mail

The diver was identified as being a local businessman who had been scuba diving in Cenderawasih Bay. Marine laws in the country prevent divers from touching the protected creatures as they can be hurt easily. People are usually advised to keep a distance of at least three feet from the animals. Environmentalists have been outraged at the 'ridiculous' actions of the scuba diver as whale sharks are one of the animals listed on the Red List and are considered as endangered.
