Nigel Ingram and John Blight from Winchelsea in East Sussex have been found guilty of fraud and have been sentenced to three and a half years in jail. In early 2015 local police were alerted when a number of historical artifacts were missing from the HMS Hermes, but before that in 2014 French maritime surveillance officers had boarded Johns boat the ‘De Bounty’ as they grew suspicious due to the lifting equipment that was on the boat.

Three days later the French officers came back to the Hermes and found that the ships condenser had been removed and that some of the equipment that was spotted on De Bounty had been left behind on the wreck. On further investigation, the French authorities found a cashed cheque from a scrap merchant for £5000 pounds.
