Baby Hippo Fiona with Scuba Diver - Cincinnati Zoo

Divers will be in the outside pool when Fiona goes out for the first time.
To get her used to tanks, masks, flippers and extra bubbles, she’s being introduced to divers in the indoor pools. When she first notices the strange-looking creature, she hesitates and moves away. After diver Jen removes her mask, Fiona is more comfortable with her and the equipment she is wearing. The more time she spends in the water, the less she notices the gear. Fiona’s care team is trying to introduce new sights and sounds that she might encounter outside so her first experience will be positive and fun. She is doing well in the full indoor pools and is able to push off the bottom to get to the surface for air. She’ll use these skills outside in deeper water when her care team thinks she’s ready.
