제주 해녀문화, 한국 19번째 인류무형문화유산 됐다
The free-diving tradition associated with Jeju island's so-called 'Haenyeo' women has made it onto UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage list.
The decision was made at the eleventh session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage held in Ethiopia on Wednesday.
For centuries,... the women have made a living harvesting seafood by hand -- work that's both difficult and dangerous, causing their number to dwindle in recent years.
The addition to the UNESCO list renews hopes the culture can be preserved.
