Mama Viña – an old shrimp boat that was intentionally sunk in 1995, has since developed an artificial reef and today belongs to one of the top dive sites on the Riviera Maya. Originally sunk to be a snorkeling destination, but dragged by hurricane to greater depth.
Almost intact, it lies in approx 70 to 100 feet ( 21-30m) depth with it’s bow facing the predominant south-north current head on.
Mama Vina is located south of Barracuda Reef in front of Xcaret.
